Braces

Dental braces, also known as orthodontic braces, are a common and effective orthodontic treatment used to correct dental misalignments and malocclusions (improper bites). Braces are designed to straighten teeth, close gaps, and align jaws, resulting in a more functional bite and a beautiful, confident smile.

Traditional braces include metal and ceramic braces. These consist of metal or ceramic brackets bonded onto the teeth and are connected by metal wires that apply gentle pressure to shift the teeth. Clear aligners systems such as Invisalign® and TrioClear™ provide patient’s with an alternative to metal or ceramic brackets by using a series of clear, removable aligners that fit over the teeth. They are virtually invisible and can be removed for eating, brushing, and flossing, providing more flexibility during treatment.

The first step involves a comprehensive orthodontic evaluation by a dentist or orthodontist. They will examine the teeth, take X-rays, and discuss treatment options based on the individual’s specific dental needs. Once the treatment plan is established, brackets and wires are placed onto the teeth. Periodic adjustments are scheduled during the treatment period to tighten the wires and continue guiding the teeth into their desired positions. After the braces are removed, a retainer is typically provided to maintain the teeth in their new positions and prevent them from shifting back.

The duration of orthodontic treatment varies depending on the complexity of the dental issues and the type of braces used. In general, most people wear braces for one to three years, with some cases requiring shorter or longer treatment times.
